I just want to highlight that, I tried to display the vertex index in the model viewer however I could not find " Numerics - indices" option. maybe because i use different version of blender (4.3.0). Instead I checked the restrained nodes by navigating the vertices coordinates in the tap “Geometry Nodes”.

Good workaround!

For anyone else reading this, make sure to turn on ‘Developer Extras’ from the preferences menu

Edit → Preferences → Interface Tab → check ‘Developer Extras’.

Then, when you’re in edit mode, you can click the ‘Mesh Edit Mode’ button in top right corner of the 3D view to reveal the ‘Indices’ checkbox.

Confirmed in Blender 4.2 LTS.
