Hey Sean in the video of Lecture 33 i see you have the text of lect 15 posted but it is not showing to me unlike lecture 1 through 4 which i can see them if i simply clicked on the lecture can you help me to reach it please

Hey Mario,
Yes - this is my because I haven’t migrated the remaining lecture text to the EngineeringSkills platform yet. I started, but never finished the job! I’ve been behind on this for quite a while (keeps getting trumpted by working on the next new course )

My apologies for this…I will turn attention back to sorting this over the xmas break.

Seán

No worries I managed with the video , quite exciting for the new topic very interesting

Dr Seán, can you emphasize the method of designing beams in bending using the moment of resistance?

  • I never got to know the theory behind the analysis method, and whether this approach in design is good or not.

  • In short, you get the moment at each location where the BMD is divided into blocks, and set the reinforcement in each region along the beam as per the BMD at certain locations, this is to save RFT.

Hi @dr_kremlin - yes, in the course we focus on designing the steel for the maximum design moment - our focus is on learning how reinforcement calculation is done.

We can identify regions where the moment reduces and design a steel reinforcement area for these regions too (as per your diagram). In practice, the reduction in steel is typically handled by employing reinforcement curtailment rules specified in the code.

Thanks for your post.
